Meet Ben Jackson, Surveyors to Education’s Building Surveyor
Ben joined S2e just before Christmas in 2023 and has found himself learning from the best. He revels in the variety of work his role holds in store, and says seeing pupils and teachers enjoying their new surroundings after an S2e project is one of the most rewarding parts of the job.
“Everyone at the company is so full of knowledge and experience to learn from and happy to share it,” Ben says. “So we can all collaborate, work better and produce great outcomes for our clients.”
Ben completed a Bachelor's degree in architectural technology and worked for five years as an architectural technologist designing houses, offices and modular offices and classrooms. He worked in the design team of a company of building surveyors and also for a business that supplied modular buildings. In 2023 he finished a Master’s in building surveying and jumped at the chance to join S2e.
“I chose S2e because the small size of the company appealed,” he says. “I knew I wouldn't be pigeonholed in one area but could take on a broad range of projects. I know the business values my experience in modular buildings as well as the fact that I have worked on the design side of the construction industry and have previous building industry experience.”
Role at S2e
Ben enjoys the variety of work as a building surveyor at S2e, which ranges across buildings of different ages and architectural styles to projects of every size: from window replacements or a new roof to whole school blocks.
“I'm very interested in the contract management side of this work because it is so good to see a project from start to finish, from the design stage to handover to the client,” he says. “You see the whole process of what we do.”
When Ben worked an architectural technologist he rarely saw the end result. What is rewarding at S2e is to hear from clients how their pupils and teachers are thriving in their new buildings. “They can work at their best rather than coping with cramped conditions, an unstable roof or draughty windows,” he says. “A better learning environment benefits everyone.”
