Identification and remediation of RAAC for educational establishments
The Department for Education has published guidance to help educational establishments (a) understand how to identify RAAC and (b) commission a chartered building surveyor to confirm if RAAC is present.

RAAC is a lightweight, bubbly form of concrete that was often used in schools and colleges from the 1950s to the mid 1990s. It is usually found in roofs (pitched and flat) and occasionally in walls and floors and is weaker than traditional concrete, so poses risks that could have serious consequences.
The RAAC survey will cover:
A visit to the school premises to identify whether RAAC in present
If RAAC is identified, a technical report will be provided and recommendations for next steps given
A plan for remedial works
We will also be able to assist schools and academy trusts in putting together the strongest possible case for CIF funding if appropriate.
