Issue to Address - Educational Needs

Beauchamp College, a member of the Lionheart Educational Trust, recognised a key challenge. Within the region there is an increasing demand for pupil places which can only be offered if the facilities and resources are in place.

In response, Beauchamp College proposed the construction of a new STEM building to address this gap, aiming to enhance the educational opportunities and support the ambitions of its students.

The Brief - A Vision for Enhancement

Leveraging their successful partnership with S2e on past projects, Lionheart Educational Trust enlisted S2e’s expertise to undertake this project. The brief was to deliver a new two storey STEM block which would complement their existing science and maths offering to students. This included two new science labs, a prep room, three classrooms, a library, a dining area, an office, and unisex toilets on both floors.

From initial feasibility through to project completion, S2e played a pivotal role. They handled the brief preparation, conducted feasibility studies, created planning drawings, managed tendering, and applied value engineering. Acting as contract administrators and employer’s agent, S2e demonstrated their expertise at every stage.

Challenges - Significant Hurdles

The project encountered some hurdles, including protracted delays in planning approvals, requiring intervention from local councillors. Additionally, adverse weather conditions caused internal damage to the modular bays during construction, leading to further delays.

Strategic planning, constant communication with stakeholders, and adaptive project management were key in navigating these challenges, demonstrating S2e’s commitment to delivering excellence against the odds

The Project - Design and Collaboration

In close collaboration with the school, S2e designed a building that complemented the school’s branding. The exterior, featuring brick slips and render, gave the modular structure a traditional appearance, while the installation of photovoltaic panels on the roof underscored the project’s environmental commitment.

Project Results - Fulfilling the Educational Mission

The completion of the new STEM building at Beauchamp College has markedly enhanced the learning environment for its students. With these advanced facilities, the college is well-positioned to maintain its reputation for providing an outstanding educational experience, further enabling students to explore and excel in their academic pursuits.

For S2e, this project went beyond mere construction; it was an opportunity to improve the learning environment and impact the students’ future prospects, bringing a sense of professional fulfilment and personal satisfaction.
