Funding for Public Sector Low Carbon Skills Fund launched

£14 million of funding has been made available by Salix Finance to enable the public sector to develop heat decarbonisation plans for their estates.

Salix Finance, in partnership with the Department for Business, Energy, Industrial Strategy have launched Phase Three of the Public Sector Low Carbon Skills Fund (LCSF) with up to £14 million of funding available.

The Public Sector Low Carbon Skills Fund (LCSF), provides grants for public sector organisations to engage the specialist and expert advice and skills required to put in place or improve an existing heat decarbonisation plan.

Heat decarbonisation plans can help schools and colleges apply for Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme (PSDS) funding and become greener through affordable, low carbon heating and energy efficiency upgrades.

In the latest round of PSDS funding, S2e achieved a 100% funding success rate, for over 30 schools and academies.

The application portal for the Public Sector Low Carbon Skills Fund opens on Wednesday 15 June 2022 at 2pm with applications assessed on a first-come-first-served basis and so it is highly recommended that applications are ready for submission in advance of the portal application opening. With the previous phases, funding was allocated within hours of the portal opening.

Successful applicants to the LCSF scheme will need to complete heat decarbonisation plans by 31 March 2023.

The Business and Energy Minister, Lord Callanan said of the funding “Thanks to the £2.5 billion we have made available, through the Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme, we are saving public sector organisations and taxpayers millions of pounds each year by making our buildings cheaper and more efficient to heat.  These fund grants will build on this, allowing public bodies to better access the specialist skills and expertise they need to decarbonise heating in their buildings and to deliver future projects to bring down the cost of energy bills around the country.”
