Meet Dave Pugh, Energy Performance Consultant

Dave is a qualified Chartered Construction Manager who trained at Up Skill Training and Assesment

Dave joined S2e in summer 2022 from Coventry University, where he was the senior engineer and manager responsible for all legal compliance, mechanical plant and equipment: from gas to water to hygiene to fire safety to air conditioning – in his words, “all that makes a building run!” Before that he carried out the same role for the NHS at Nottingham University Hospital Trust, and previously worked in Abu Dhabi and Dubai. There his jobs ranged from construction manager to consultant to client representative to project manager on projects as varied as an equestrian centre, hotel, office building, university and a very large hospital.

Role at S2e

Dave joined S2e for a new challenge and to implement his expertise in energy saving and carbon reduction. In a typical week he will be contacting schools and gathering information about their fossil fuel heating systems or gas boilers. He carries out condition surveys, energy performance surveys and decarbonisation surveys, collecting the data needed to help schools win a decarbonisation grant from the government as part of the Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme (PSDS).

His specialist knowledge comes in making the strongest case possible by gathering and presenting all the technical data that schools cannot obtain alone.

Technical innovations

He loves bringing his knowledge and experience into schools that have never heard of some of the technical innovations he can implement to reduce their carbon footprint, save them money on their energy bills and help the UK move towards net zero.

Seeing their delight at what is possible is very rewarding. “It's all about energy-saving new ideas,” he says.

He has also been solving some interesting challenges, such as working out how much energy it takes to heat a swimming pool for a year!

Putting forward the best case

I’m excited to be with S2e and I’m always looking for new technology so I can showcase our expertise and help schools save energy, which is great for their budgets and for reducing CO2.

Once I’ve helped schools put forward the best case we can for the next round of the PSDS, I’ll be branching out into legal compliance work which also promises to be fascinating.
