Fressingfield C of E Primary School: CIF Funded Safeguarding Upgrade
In Summer 2026, S2e undertook the design and project management of the upgrade to the perimeter fencing and gates at Fressingfield C of E Primary School.
Following a successful Condition Improvement Fund bid, it was identified that the school’s existing perimeter security and safeguarding measures were no longer suitable for the needs of the school.
S2e developed a comprehensive design for the new fencing layout, improving the overall security of the site while also reconfiguring the entrance gates to provide a safer and more efficient process for entering and exiting the school grounds.
The project was delivered over a six-week programme during the summer holidays, minimising disruption to the school and its pupils. S2e managed the works through to completion, with the project successfully handed over ahead of the new school year.

Project features
Design and functionality
The design included a complete upgrade of the perimeter fencing to 1.8m high twin mesh, providing a secure boundary and improving site safeguarding. Hedgehog holes were incorporated to maintain wildlife movement and support the existing ecology, while the entrance and exit arrangements were reconfigured to improve pedestrian and vehicle flow.
Safeguarding and security
The project improved the school’s safeguarding and security by creating a clearly defined perimeter, helping prevent unauthorised access and reduce opportunities for pupils to leave the site unsupervised. Upgraded access points provided greater control over movement onto and off the site, addressing the security shortcomings identified through the Condition Improvement Fund process.
Access and entrance design
The existing vehicle in/out system and visitor car park have been secured with new automated gates, creating a controlled access point to the school site. An automated access system allows reception to authorise entry to the car park, providing greater control over vehicle movements while improving safety and efficiency during arrival and collection times.
Project management and delivery
S2e provided full design and project management services, coordinating with the school and contractor to deliver the works efficiently and to the required standard. The six-week programme was completed during the summer holidays, minimising disruption and allowing for successful handover ahead of the new school year.
Outcome and benefits
The completed works have significantly improved the school’s safeguarding provision, delivering a more secure and robust perimeter with greater control over site access. The upgraded entrance arrangements have also improved the functionality and efficiency of the school site, with the project successfully completed and handed over ready for the new academic year.
